Coach ChapmanI have enjoyed playing tennis for most of my life, and I really enjoyed the competition of tournaments.  However, I now get much more enjoyment out of seeing my students improve and getting the same enjoyment out of this wonderful game that I did.  I make sure my players have as much fun as possible during their lessons, while at the same time get a great workout and the finest instruction.  I am very technical when it comes to the proper grips, footwork and stroke production.  I originally learned the game playing with a wood racket and an eastern forehand grip.  However, over the years, the game and the equipment have changed dramatically.  Now the players need a semi-western grip in order to hit the ball with the topspin necessary to keep the ball in the court.  The open-stance forehand and open-stance backhand are other shots players need to master to be competitive in the modern game.  The transition game (coming to the net upon receiving a short ball from your opponent) is so vital in today's tennis game, yet it is one of the most over-looked fundamentals by many coaches.  Many instructors also fail to teach the split-step and proper footwork that enables the player to get into the correct hitting position every time.

I have several group lessons for the advanced and beginner junior players every Saturday at Murrieta Valley High School and Temecula Valley High School, and new players are always welcome.  My workout groups are 90 minutes long and consist of various drills utilizing every aspect of the game and some match play for my more advanced players.  Saturday and Sunday afternoons are also available for private lessons.  Monday through Friday I instruct mostly in the Temecula area where I have access to several tennis facilities.  Whether you are interested in private, semi-private or group lessons, I will find time to help you reach your full tennis potential.
